Many computers have Java installed and often times it is not needed. Java has been in the news a lot lately because of serious security holes that can allow remote attackers to infect and take control of a computer. It seems as soon as a vulnerability is patched, another is found. My recommendation is that if you do not need Java you should remove it. If you are unsure if you need it, uninstall it anyway. If you later get a notification that Java is required for a program to run, just reinstall it – it’s free.
If you are unsure of how to uninstall Java, it is no different than uninstalling any other program. If you see several instances of Java installed because of updates, uninstall them all. If you need further help uninstalling Java, visit this link.
